HMRC tells employers to prepare for PAYE changes

Employers in Northern Ireland are being advised not to leave it too late to make the necessary changes in order to be able to comply with new Pay As You Earn (PAYE) process.

The substantial changes to PAYE will come into effect in April of this year, and employers will now be required to submit their returns electronically via RTI-enabled payroll software every time they pay their staff. This will require a large number of businesses in Northern Ireland to buy or update software, and will also require them to review the employees on their payroll system. Employees below the Lower Earnings Limit, or those considered as casual staff, who were not previously on the payroll of their employer firms will now have to be added.
