Sneezing motorist charged with careless driving

A bizarre crash in Northern Ireland resulted in £37,000 damage to a hair dressing salon and a careless driving charge for a motorist who took a fit of sneezing while driving.

Dermot O'Hara of Limavady told police that he had stopped at traffic lights and began to move off when they turned green when he was overcome with a sneezing fit. He lost control of the car and crashed, causing extensive damage to a hair dressing salon. His solicitor advised the court that he was driving his father's car which was very powerful, but the judge queried why O'Hara did not just stop the car.

The court expressed concern at Mr O'Hara's lack of experience in failing to stop the accident, and fined him £300 and give him six penalty points.
