100mph drink driver was two times over the legal limit

By Gary Adair

Excessive speed and drink driving are two of the largest causes of road traffic accidents in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK, and last weekend one motorist was caught engaging in both, travelling at 100mph while more than 2 times over the legal limit.

The driver, who has not been named, was travelling along the Aston Expressway in Birmingham and was seen driving through a section of roadworks at 100pmh. His vehicle was stopped and he gave a roadside breath test which recorded a result of 74mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath - more than twice the legal limit. He will appear in court on 10th February.

The motorist on this occasion was very fortunate that his behaviour was noticed and he was brought to a stop before he was involved in an accident.
