Caution for parents who left 1yr old in car in 25C heat

Two parents, aged 24 and 28, have been fined by police and told to work with social services after they left their one-year-old son in their car at a retail park for over 30 minutes.

Temperatures outside the car were as high as 25C when officers forced the door open. The windows had been left sightly open, but the boy was taken to hospital with heatstroke and dehydration. The couple were given conditional cautions for causing harm to the child, who police say were "visibly distressed".

The cautions given to the two parents include the conditions that they agree not to commit a further offence, pay a fine, and agree to co-operate with family services.
